My apologies

By the way, I've been informed that Michael Milken's lawyers have at times been known to strenuously and expensively object to Mr. Milken being referred to as "the junk bond king," since they will not stipulate that junk bonds ever had a monarch, nor that there have even been any such things as junk bonds.

So, to preclude the need for Mr. Milken to pay for many billable hours to protect his sterling reputation from the "junk bond king" smear, I shall henceforth endeavour to refer to Mr. Milken as "the high-yield honcho."

I thought the argument was that every bond sold since 2006 is junk...

So it looks like that Monopoly strategy is correct: if you go to jail, you can make money while everyone else pays the rent.

Reminds me of an Indian business press article about Angelo Mozilo... the "Mortgage Monarch".

The Milkman Cometh?

Connie Bruck's The Predator's Ball is an excellent read.

Your jokes at the expense of Michael Milken are not only derivative, but below investment grade.

So the worst possible scenario for Sterling is he gets to pocket $563 million?

Poor poor baby.

You can sleep with neanderthals but don't hang around them too much.

No shame in this, shrug it off.

Now we got a whole new Group Milkin' the nation. And aren't they clever! Sprung they little trap right in the middle of NBA playoff interest, how coincident. . . during a warrior/clippers matchup guaranteed for both ratings, and their patsy at national center stage. Rustled them a nice stupid slumlord to toss on the altar.

It's a fine series -- what the Medea is SUPPOSED to be doing -- much obliged. Cheers

Leave him alone. Don't ya know? He's a charitable humanitarian (now).

Perhaps he'd prefer "Michael the Bald (of Swindled-em)".

BBB is investment grade, not junk.

Nope, you haven't hit a nerve AT ALL.

If Bill Clinton had put Milken to work like FDR put Joe Kennedy to work, the mortgage bubble might never have happened.

I read James Stewart's book on Milken, I started reading it disliking Milken beforehand, but mellowed during half of it.

Milken's idea of junk bonds was simply quite good & the way he managed to build up his empire made me realize he was exceptionally gifted for business. He would have never had to go the illegal route. If he had not, he'd now be one of the richest people on earth.

Even on vacations he'd get on 4:30 AM, then call it quits around 12:00. That was vacation for him lol.

Boesky was the real crook IMO.

Steve, you are playing with words. Trading in bonds is legal and you are gratuitiously harming a person's hardearned prestige and legitimate business. Be a man, recognize your error and apologize sincerely.

Honcho is not regal. I suggest High Yield Hidalgo, if you want to stick with H words.

Anonymous said...

Actually if you want to do it right it should read: "the high-yield(*) honcho."

So can I get a Comedic Douche Swap (CDS) on my Cuckolded Dumb Oligarch (CDO) portfolio? I've got large trenches of Homewrecking Opportunists (HOs) to get rid of, too.

Milken is like a southerner!

Can we at least refer to Millken as a convicted felon? Also when did Noseferatu become NBA commissioner? Surprised he could make a statement before sundown.

Bond equality!!

'Gay marriage' is real marriage, and junk bond is a real bond.

Just call Milken the Undocumented Bond Community Leader.

Indeed, that is a far more insidious form of racial bigotry happening here: Jews trying to dump their own prejudices on others.

Trying?

TRYING?!?

Well, there is no famine.

As I think a couple of other commenters noted in other threads, this whole fiasco would make a great Tom Wolfe novel- A decrepit old billionaire's (probably unfaithful) mistress, at the urging of her low-rent scumbucket lawyer, entraps her Sugar Daddy into saying something kinda racist, at which point a coalition of other financial wheeler-dealers (including a millionaire ex-basketball player who is beloved despite his sordid past, a defrocked bond trader, and other secretive plutocrats) whip the soft-brained heads of the news media into a racially-charged feeding frenzy.

Throw in a nearly-fatal shooting by an unhinged maniac and a subplot about a Modern artist or a pretentious academic, and I'd buy that book.

What's wrong with junk bonds?
